Drops, rematches and finals are handled automatically.

Clear finals handling

Players and spectators see the path to the title at a glance: the two brackets meet in one grand final, or cross over at the semifinals if you choose.

Frequently asked questions

With the default grand final the formula is 2n-2 per leg, so 8 teams play 14 matches, 16 teams play 30, and 32 teams play 62. With the semifinal crossover it is one match fewer, plus the third-place match if you add it. No extra match is added to the grand final, whoever wins it.

Teams that lose in the upper bracket drop into the lower bracket and keep playing. Lose twice and you are eliminated. The lower-bracket winner meets the upper-bracket winner in the grand final.

The upper-bracket winner and the lower-bracket winner play the grand final, and the winner takes the title. You can also bring the two brackets together earlier, crossing over at the semifinals, and, in that setup, add a match for third place.

It works well for 4 to 32 participants. Below 4 it has too few matches; above 32 the schedule gets long. For larger fields a multi-stage groups-into-knockout is usually a better fit.

You decide with the merge point in the tournament settings. Grand Final is the default: the upper-bracket winner plays the lower-bracket winner in one final. Semifinals needs at least 7 participants and brings the brackets together earlier: each semifinal pairs an upper-bracket survivor with a lower-bracket survivor, and the two winners meet in the final. With Semifinals you can add a 3rd/4th place match; without it, the two semifinal losers share third place.
